We are still here, but we have been a bit tied up lately. Furthermore, our digital camera broke and had to be sent to the Nikon factory for repairs, so we now have no way to get our pictures online.... Anyway, if you're wondering what we've been up to lately, there are a few things:
Last weekend, we took a road trip down to the Carolinas, primarily for a baby shower for my friend Courtney in Columbia, and also for a wedding in Asheville. It was a marathon weekend, but great fun and a blessing to see everyone. Friday night, we stopped in Greensboro overnight, and we were so happy to get to visit with Rachel and Nathan, friends from Greensboro from long ago when my family lived there. It was the first time we'd seen Rachel in about 8 or 10 years, and the first time Ben had met them at all. As Rachel said on her blog, it's amazing how you can find people again and start staying in touch again with blogs, e-mail, and all the new technology. She has a photo of us eating dessert together over there on her blog. (Next time we visit, we'll stay for longer than 2 hours!)
After a somewhat restful night in the 'Boro (not to be confused with the 'Burg), we drove the beautiful drive Saturday morning to Asheville. It was cool and a beautiful day for an outdoor wedding. Hannah and Hazen (who got married) had a wonderful ceremony and reception both, and we were glad to get to see so many familiar faces from church and Furman.
Saturday, we spent a short but sweet evening in Greenville visiting Furman and downtown Greenville with my mom and brother. I took my 2,456th picture of the Furman Belltower and we took a walk around the lake. I miss it so much there and it was great to be back!
Sunday, we went to church where I used to go while in college, and we heard a great sermon on prayer by the president of Child Evangelism Fellowship. Again - it was wonderful to be back there as well!
That afternoon, we drove in a hurry to Columbia for Courtney's shower, which went quite well. That night, we spent time with her and Eric and stayed at their house before getting up bright and early Monday to drive back to Williamsburg. We made it back just in time for Ben's 3:00 class. The only thing we figured out was that never again will we leave for a 7-hour drive without looking up where the nearby Starbuckses are, as we had to wait 5 hours before getting to one! (We managed to stay awake, somehow, but it was rough since we hadn't had much sleep.) Whoever manages the establishment of coffeehouses needs to seriously consider rural South Carolina and North Carolina; they didn't even have Frappuccino bottles at the gas stations!!
Well, other than that, we've been busy with miscellaneous projects, and Ben with studying, so we just haven't had much time to write lately. We're glad, though, that the weather has cooled and fall is in the air. This weekend is pumpkin pie-baking weekend - a family tradition for the first day of fall!
