September Days

Well, here's an update on what we've been up to lately. This will be a random conglomeration of pictures and updates.

First, the first big storm to be headed our direction is off in the Atlantic Ocean right now; Gabrielle doesn't seem likely to do much damage, and they're predicting it will hit the coast of the Carolinas, but we're still watching it since it will probably bring some rain our way. This is what the National Hurricane Center currently shows:

This photo below shows damage done by Hurricane Isabel several years back - at least, we're pretty sure that's why all the trees are without their tops! Hopefully we won't have anything this bad this season.

Last night (Friday), my (Jenny's) Aunt Linda and Uncle Tom came through Williamsburg for a day, and they took us to dinner at Christiana Campbell's Tavern (our favorite!), and then came over for dessert afterward. They had to leave early today, but we enjoyed their visit despite it being so short:

Last weekend, we went to Gloucester and tried crabbing and fishing again. I netted one crab, but it was too small to keep. It was still a beautiful day to be outside - September here seems to be gorgeous, though some days are hotter than others.

Earlier in the weekend, we went on a bike ride on the Greensprings Trail. Afterward, Ben had a little trouble dismantling our bikes from the bike carrier, and they got rather tangled up:

Finally, late one night last weekend, we discovered that we still had about 12-15 pounds of apples left; furthermore, most of them were starting to rot and go bad. What does one do with so many apples? Well, we made applesauce. Ben graciously did most of it, since I was busy with something else that I had to get done; he even got rather creative and put some tangelo rind, cinnamon sticks, and spices in some of it! It's delicious ... and we still have several jars left.
