Historic Jamestown

This past weekend, my (Jenny's) family came to visit in Williamsburg, and we had a blast. One of the things we did was visit Historic Jamestown. We'll post other pictures from the visit too, but first, these are all of the ones pertaining to Jamestown (being the neat freak that I am, I like to have my blog posts organized :)). If you haven't been to Jamestown, it's definitely worth it - it's amazing to think that you're standing where our country was founded!

The James River, off of Colonial Parkway, which leads to Jamestown Island:

Powhatan Creek, also visible from Colonial Parkway:

Me and Ben in front of the "East Bulwark" wall:

Statue of Capt. John Smith:

And a statue of Pocahontas:

Monument at Jamestown, erected at the 300th anniversary (?) of the founding of the colony. It has some profound words on it about how the country was founded on the Christian faith and that all "plantations" should be maintained under the fear of God, for His glory. The Christian roots of our nation are very obvious throughout the various museums, displays and monuments.

The Barracks:

The church - one of the more prominent things to see, which is even neater on the inside. The Ten Commandments are posted on either side of the front wall, and plaques line the walls in memory of various important people from the history of the town:

A cross marking someone's grave, I think - facing toward the James River:

Where some of their houses originally would've stood:

Replicas of the three ships that sailed to found the colony: (This display is visible from the Jamestown Ferry, or when you pay to get into the Jamestown Settlement museum, which we didn't go to this time.)

Hey! You are so good at bloggin'...I love it! Keep 'em coming! I may be wrong but I think the year was 1607 so that would make it the 400th year for the Jamestown anniversary! Anyway, so it's so great keeping in touch with you!
